CouldBeBetter, L.L.C. ("we," "us," or "our") operates microgratitude.org and the Gratitude Stack mobile application (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Services.
We built the Gratitude Stack platform on a foundation of anonymity. You can browse and experience the community gratitude feed without creating an account or providing any personal information.
2. Information We Collect
Anonymous Use (No Account Required)
When you browse the website or app without an account, we collect only:
- Standard server/app logs (pages visited, timestamps, device type, browser/OS version)
- Aggregate, anonymized usage analytics
No personally identifiable information is collected during anonymous use.
Registered Users (Email Signup)
If you choose to create an account to post microgratitudes, we collect:
- Email address (used only for account authentication and service communications)
- A username of your choosing (does not need to reflect your real name)
- The microgratitude entries you choose to share publicly
- Account creation date and activity timestamps
What We Do Not Collect
- Real name, physical address, or phone number
- Payment information (no paid features currently exist)
- Location data
- Device contacts, camera, or microphone access
- Social media profile data
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information solely to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services
- Authenticate registered users and maintain account security
- Send transactional emails (e.g., password reset, account confirmation)
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the experience
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose beyond what is listed above.
4. Anonymity by Design
The Gratitude Stack platform is intentionally anonymous. Publicly shared microgratitudes are displayed without any connection to a real identity. Other users cannot see your email address, account history, or any personal details. Your username is the only identifier visible in the community feed.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only:
- With service providers: Third-party vendors who assist in operating the Services (e.g., hosting, email delivery) under confidentiality agreements.
- For legal compliance: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights and safety of CouldBeBetter, L.L.C. or others.
- In a business transfer: If CouldBeBetter, L.L.C. is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may transfer as part of that transaction.
6. Cookies and Tracking
We use minimal, functional cookies necessary to operate the Services (e.g., maintaining your logged-in session). We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings; doing so may limit certain features for registered users but will not affect anonymous browsing.
7. Data Retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data (email, username) will be removed within 30 days. Publicly shared microgratitudes may remain in the community feed unless you delete them prior to account closure. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Registered users may at any time:
- Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your account
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Opt out of non-transactional email communications

9. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Third-Party Links
The Services may contain links to third-party websites (e.g., Amazon for book purchases, Apple App Store, Google Play). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you visit.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this document. For material changes, we will provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification or email to registered users). Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
